How to Use Your Smudge Pot - Instructions

First, be sure the snuffer plate on the left side of the base is pulled all the way out. Then open the fuel filler cap and fill with Diesel or oil. Do not over fill, only fill to the top bend line in the tank. To ignite the smudge pot, loosely roll a paper towel and place it in the filler neck, ensuring it reaches down into the fuel then light the paper towel. It will take a couple of minutes to heat up and for the flames to reach the top of the chimney. If you have a torch handy it can also be used by itself to light the fuel through the filler neck. Once ignited, adjust the flame height and heat output by partially closing the filler neck cap and/or the snuffer plate to regulate air flow. To extinguish the smudge pot, slide in the snuffer plate until fully closed and close the filler neck cap to cut off all air flow and the flames will go out. Utilize gloves or a fire poker to manipulate the snuffer plate and filler neck cap during extinguishing as the base will be very hot.
